Job Summary:

This role will also report into the Senior Director of Operations and HSE and will act as a primary lead with the various regions on all things related to Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) practices. This role will help the Senior Director of Operations and HSE to implement the HSE strategy, policies, and procedures in line with regulations and corporate guidelines, as well as support leadership in achieving sustainable, outstanding HSE performance.


Responsibilities:


Program Management and Development

  • Lead initiatives to foster a culture that promotes safety awareness and engage employees in maintaining a safe working environment
  • Ensure company compliance with local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations and make recommendations to ensure organizational compliance and reinforce commitment to HSE initiatives
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and develop strategies to minimize the company’s environmental footprint
  • Design, deliver and maintain policies, procedures and programs for employees at all levels and ensure are actively adhered to and effectively applied across all business units.


Relationship Management

Coordinate, represent and lead where appropriate in various internal and external meetings

  • Provides advice to management teams on various HSE topics


Reporting and Data Management

Drive the implementation of the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system

Accountable for accurate & timely reporting of various metrics and analysis

  • Assists in the preparation of presentations and metrics reporting for the Leadership team
  • Proactively supports project teams to achieve safety goals
  • Participate in various internal audits to evaluate compliance with HSE policies and safety standards. Ensure that audit findings are addressed, and corrective actions are implemented


Training and Communication

  • Master Trainer in safety related topics. Identify, develop and deliver training materials.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to frontline employees and team members on safety topics


Workers’ Compensation

  • Investigate, review and analyze occupational incidents and worker’s compensation claims to identify root cause(s) and recommend preventative actions
  • Lead all Workers Compensation claims and liaise with claims management provider


Professional Experience & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required
  • A minimum of ten (10) years in a Health, Safety, & Environmental role, with at least ten (10) years in a multi-site environment, preferably from the utility or construction industry
  • Experience in; Hazard Waste Management, Air Permit/ Title V, Tier II, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures, Process Safety Management, Storm Water Prevention Plan, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Storm Water Discharge permitting
  • American Society of Safety Professional (AASP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) and/or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) certifications considered an asset
  • Must maintain confidentiality and remain objective while working with sensitive and confidential materials
  • Comfortable in working both in office and plant environments


Technical Skills & Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of environmental regulations and policies and experience with development, implementation and monitoring of environmental strategies that promote sustainability
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
  • Skilled in managing internal auditing programs
  • Excellent time management, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience and knowledge in various HSE software platforms
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to exchange information, problem solve and interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be very comfortable in leading and participating in presentations to various groups
