siRNA RESEARCH TEAM – MARYLAND R&D CENTER

We are currently seeking talented and inventive scientists to join our siRNA research team in Montgomery County, Maryland. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in the target discovery and preclinical candidate development of high impact projects, where you will be an integral member of a collaborative, driven, and passionate team.


THE POSITION – SENIOR SCIENTIST – siRNA RESEARCH

We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and resourceful scientist to join our team. This team will be focusing on the discovery and characterization of novel oligonucleotide drug candidates. This candidate will be responsible for developing therapeutic hypotheses via model development, target ID and validation and drug discovery. Candidates will be deeply involved in our oligonucleotide projects, including target biology, drug delivery and screening methodology. The ideal candidates are expected to have extensive laboratory experience with development and implementation of in vitro assays as well as in vivo studies for evaluating activity and mechanism of action of candidate drugs.


The successful candidate will be an independent contributor and work directly with corporate partners, cross-functional teams and project teams to support our pre-clinical programs.


RESPONSIBILITIES

· Maintain in depth knowledge of target discovery trend in the relevant field.

· Generate ideas and design experimental plans for target identification and validation in vitro and in vivo. Execute experiments, generate and analyze data, and communicate data to scientific team and executive management.

· Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support the development of siRNA projects from lead candidate selection to IND-enabling preclinical studies. Build the project execution plan in line with strategic priorities.

· Facilitate internal and external efforts to evaluate the lead candidates in cellular and animal models. Assist managing, guiding, and executing studies in CROs, ensuring studies are completed to meet program objectives, timeline, and quality requirements.

· Maintain a current appreciation of scientific literature and understanding of the state of the art in oligonucleotide therapeutics. Provide expert input in evaluation of external/partnership opportunities.

· Flexible to changing priorities.

· Comply with laboratory safety policies and practices.

· Supervise Research Associates and/or Associate Scientists as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS

· Ph.D./Pharm.D. in biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with 3-5 years of experience in drug discovery and/or development.

· Thorough knowledge of working with oligonucleotide therapeutics. Experience with preclinical siRNA discovery is essential, both in vitro and in vivo.

· Experience working from discovery projects to the development stage. Demonstrated experience successfully prioritizing and managing projects and timelines. Ability to independently translate strategy into action in a timely manner.

· Strong presentation skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE

· Strong team player that brings people along through a supportive, engaged, and creative way of working.

· Solid understanding of scientific background and experimental techniques, with knowledge of siRNA, metabolic diseases, delivery methods, etc.

· Experience in innovative assay development.

· Extensive hands-on laboratory experience in developing and using state-of-the-art molecular and cell biology tools to identify and validate novel drugs candidates in primary human cells.

· Proven track record with publications in relevant fields.

· Ability to work independently but also in a collaborative manner with local and cross site teams.

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.

· Creative, innovative and inquisitive personality.
