Job Description
Job Title: Health Information Technician

Job Specialty: Staff Augmentation

Job Duration: 26 weeks

Shift: Day Shift, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Monday to Friday, no weekends/holidays)

Must-Have: Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; Electronic Health Record experience is a plus, but training will be provided

Job Description:

- Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness.
- Organize medical reports for placement in files and review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present.
- Type health information forms, prepare charts for new admissions, fill out forms, and prepare requests for specific reports or certificates.
- Compile and type statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, or length of stay.
- File reports into health information records, record information in logs, and file and retrieve health information records in the filing system.
- Provide information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of the request.
- Coordinate with other departments concerning health information records procedures.

Major Worker Characteristics:

- Knowledge of health information technology, regulations governing medical record keeping, and requirements for confidentiality of patient information.
- Ability to use a word processor and calculator.
- Problem-solving skills within a familiar context.
- Capability to write routine business letters, evaluations, or records following standard procedures.
- Proficient in proofreading medical reports and recognizing errors.
- Ability to recognize when medical records information is missing and gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things.

Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment:

- Records management experience equivalent to 3 courses or 9 months.
- Medical terminology experience equivalent to 1 course or 3 months.
- Typing experience equivalent to 1 course or 3 months.
- Equivalent qualifications may also be considered.

Training and Development Required to Remain in the Classification After Employment: Not applicable
