Siglo Group is looking for an Ecological Designer to support our work associated with park design, sustainable land management, ecological restoration, conservation planning, site planning, green infrastructure, climate resiliency, GIS, and ecosystem services. We are a planning and design firm engaged in projects that integrate ecology and conservation into land use, water use, planning, design, policy, community, and storytelling.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Ecological Design team on projects related to park design, natural area management, conservation planning, urban ecology, and project implementation.
  • Integrate regionally specific ecological concepts into design processes, from concept to construction drawings, focusing on soil health, invasive species control, erosion management, biodiversity, native plant selection and installation, and seeding processes.
  • Support the creation of specifications associated with ecological design components that results in successful implementation.
  • Observe, monitor, report, and provide direction throughout ecological restoration and landscape implementation processes.
  • Support long-term adaptive management practices on projects.
  • Conduct site assessments, field data acquisition, plant identification, and report writing.
  • Create compelling graphics and maps.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with planners, landscape architects, engineers, and clients.
  • Manage workload and time effectively to meet deadlines and expectations.
  • Drive land conservation, address climate change, protect natural resources, increase ecological function, enhance public enjoyment of nature, and support sustainable community development.


Candidate Profile:

  • Passion for ecology, design, conservation, and land use planning.
  • Degree and/or equivalent experience in landscape architecture, conservation, ecology, planning, biology, geography, civil engineering, environmental studies, or a related field. Graduate work, landscape architecture licensure, and/or planning certification are a plus.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in ecology, design, or planning; 3+ years preferred.
  • Ability to participate in design processes including vision planning, schematic design, design development, construction drawings, specification creation, and construction observations.
  • Capability to assess others’ work through field reporting and photo documentation that evaluates compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to take guidance, follow procedures, and break down complex projects into actionable steps.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to effectively share and receive information with stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce high-quality graphic content related to ecology and/or design.
  • Desire to be part of an integrative team that enjoys intense, challenging projects and believes in the importance of our work.
