The Pantry, by Feeding Hawaii Together, is the only e-commerce pantry Hawaii operating weekly, year-round, to provide fresh, diverse, nutritional food to the families of Hawaii. For over 20 years, we have been serving our Oahu community with a “grocery store style” experience so clients can choose the items they want, when they need it. This model gives our clients a voice regarding what they receive and helps to eliminate waste. The Pantry is focused on providing for the health and well-being of the whole family, and has recently expanded to providing key essentials like face masks, hand sanitizer, shampoo, toothbrushes/toothpaste, baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, pet food, and household cleaning supplies. By developing innovative ways to provide quality products for free, The Pantry has become one of Hawaii’s largest food and product distribution services addressing the urgent issue of food insecurity and providing for the well-being of families.


Role Summary/Purpose

The Program Manager plays a crucial role in leading and managing the organization's efforts to combat food insecurity in the community. This position is responsible for overseeing all programs, ensuring their efficient operation and effectiveness in meeting the needs of those facing hunger. The Program Manager strategically plans and implements initiatives to maximize The Pantry’s impact, while managing staff, volunteers, and resources. They serve as the strategic and operational thought leader in the organization, building partnerships with local organizations to source food, volunteers, advocates, and donors. This position reports to FHT’s Executive Director.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and train volunteers, including oversight of training material.
  • Oversees the daily workflow, food management, equipment, and technical systems
  • Manages distribution days at the Kalihi location
  • Oversees safety and ensures compliance and safe practices


Duties/Responsibilities:

The Pantry’s Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the full program and operations of The Pantry. Key responsibilities and qualifications include:

1.    E-Commerce Management:

·      Oversee the development and maintenance of our online ordering platform

·      Optimize the user experience for clients accessing food assistance digitally

·      Implement data-driven strategies to improve online operations and client satisfaction

2.    Warehouse Operations:

·      Oversee safety programs and operations

·      Manage large-scale warehouse operations, including inventory control, order fulfillment, and distribution

·      Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory bodies. Maintain quality standards

·      Implement efficient systems for receiving, storing, and distributing food items

3.    Client Services:

·      Develop strategies to serve thousands of clients effectively through our e-commerce platform

·      Oversee client support systems, including technical team and troubleshooting services

·      Analyze client data to improve service delivery and identify emerging needs

4.    Team Leadership:

·      Manage a diverse team of staff and volunteers across e-commerce, warehouse, and client service functions

·      Foster a culture of innovation, efficiency, and compassion

·      Manage all required reporting and ensure accuracy and timeliness

5.    Systems and Process Development:

• Develop and implement robust, scalable operational processes across departments, with a focus on standardization and efficiency to enable automated and standardized procedures.

• Design and execute standardization mechanisms that streamline workflows, reduce variability, and create a foundation for process automation, ensuring consistency and quality across all operational areas.


Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred

·      Excellent oral and written communication skills

·      Strong leadership and management abilities

·      Experience in food distribution or non-profit operations preferred

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database management

·      Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality

·      Problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing circumstances


Physical Requirements:

·      Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform warehouse tasks

·      Capability to sit, type, and view a computer screen for extended periods

  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers and speak publicly.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage.
  • Proficient with online inventory tracking and management systems.


Education and Experience:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Food Handler certification and knowledge of federal food safety standards required (will be trained and required for the role).
  • College degree preferred.
  • Experience in non-profit organization, social services, volunteer management and recruitment, event planning, and product logistics, coordination, and implementation is preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to traverse the distribution and storage facility.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist.
  • Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
