Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an Educational Specialist. This role will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to inbound students, managing the application process, and developing marketing strategies to promote opportunities to prospective participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inbound students, providing advising, support, and resources before, during, and after their program.
  • Manage the inbound application process, coordinating with partner institutions, academic departments, international student services, and other relevant student service offices.
  • Maintain program records in compliance with program and university policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations governing the immigration status of inbound students, including processing visa documents and maintaining SEVIS records.
  • Develop, review, and refine inbound program content, encompassing platforms and materials managed by MIX, as well as information disseminated by other stakeholders on behalf of MIX.
  • Develop and oversee marketing strategies to promote opportunities to prospective participants, utilizing digital marketing, print materials, social media campaigns, information sessions, fairs, and other methods.
  • Conduct orientation programs and welcome activities for inbound students to familiarize them with campus resources, academic expectations, cultural norms, community engagement opportunities, and other practical matters.
  • Organize events, workshops, activities, and excursions to promote cross-cultural exchange and enhance the inbound student experience, collaborating with student organizations, campus partners, and community stakeholders as needed.
  • Develop and manage peer mentoring programs to connect inbound students with local students for support and cultural exchange.
  • Lead efforts to assess the impact and effectiveness of inbound programs through rigorous evaluation methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative data analysis, surveys, focus groups, and alumni tracking.
  • Utilize assessment findings to inform programmatic improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to enhance inbound programs and support the university's global education objectives.
  • Train and supervise staff, including student workers, as required.
  • Conduct and participate in regular team meetings to ensure effective communication and encourage collaborative problem-solving.
  • Participate in committees and working groups focused on international student mobility.
  • Stay informed about international education trends and best practices through professional development activities.
  • Represent the university at relevant conferences and meetings as required.
Requirements
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts, social science, arts and humanities, science, education, business, or a related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student advising and program management in student mobility and/or international student services at a higher education institution.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of student mobility and/or international student services.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with student mobility and/or international student services.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, including use of productivity software (e.g., email, video conferencing, word processing, spreadsheet software, presentation software, file storage and sharing, etc.).
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, faculty, and staff in both one-on-one and group presentation settings.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Ability to multitask and manage complex projects independently and in team settings in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated skills displaying intercultural competency and experience working with an international population.
  • Ability to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), meeting the requirements as federally regulated by the Department of Homeland Security.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad for at least one semester, preferably as part of a university exchange program.
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Experience developing and leading peer mentoring programs, orientations, workshops, cultural activities, excursions, and related programming for international students.
  • Proficiency with SEVIS and other student information management systems (e.g., Banner, Ellucian, ISSM, Terra Dotta).
  • Strong interest in utilizing new technology and digital platforms.
