Job Description Summary

The GE Safety Management System(SMS) Engineer / Technologist demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

The SMS Safety Specialist will be responsible for training, promotion, risk management, assurance, policy, procedures, processes, regulatory interaction and metrics associated with our Safety Management System.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the theory, design, development and practical implementation of product safety engineering methodologies and techniques for equipment and devices. Execute a process to identify and mitigate safety risks inherent to the product design to an acceptable level; conduct rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, utilize human factors principles to drive design improvements in order to eliminate human error in the operation and maintenance of the product in the field
  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Systems Engineering

  • Master's degree in science or engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business.
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field.
