Summary:

The Department of Neurosurgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), located in Richmond, Virginia invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research position, available immediately. The research focuses on understanding the etiology, treatments, and outcomes of various cerebrovascular disease processes, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke as well as developing possible device solutions to address current clinical treatment gaps. The project involves close collaboration with other researchers and clinicians within the institution and more broadly.

Core Duties:

Conduct both retrospective and prospective clinical investigations, to decipher the etiology and treatment strategies of cerebrovascular conditions including the identification of pathways for novel treatment approaches. Extract and/or enter, compile, and analyze clinical data from a variety of databases and other records sources. Participate in experimental protocols and data analysis. Present research at local and national/international meetings and draft manuscripts for publication. Participate in general lab meetings and other responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications:

Applicants must have a MD or equivalent degree. Prior experience working with clinical outcome databases, prototype creation, grant preparation, performing meta analyses, and clinical research trials, is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated publication track record with one or more first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals for those with 2 years or more of prior postdoctoral training. Hands on experience and/or knowledge of with various clinical research tools such as TriNetX; searching biomedical and life science literature, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work both independently and as a part of a team. Ability to train, evaluate and supervise students and peer mentor lab assistants.
