Job Duties

Receives electronic and handwritten prescription orders from health departments; triages paperwork appropriately electronically and from fax machine; and processes orders as requested. Assists in receiving, filling, and shipping of bulk and vaccine orders utilizing the WebVision Bulk and Vaccine Modules. Manually or with the automated pharmacy repackaging machine, repackages drugs into commonly prescribed package sizes to facilitate the dispensing of drugs for individual patients. Assists in maintaining an inventory replacement system for pharmacies that provide medications to clients in ADAP Direct Enrollment and for the TB program. Assists with answering and directing incoming calls. Assists with other duties as assigned.

Compounds, prepares and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals, refills
prescriptions in accordance with existing procedures or specific pharmacist's
instructions, checks prescriptions for available refills, counts out correct quantity from
bulk containers; requests new prescription from physician when necessary; labels and
packages prescription: issues prescription to patient, obtains required signatures,
collects and records payments; maintains records, enters data into computer, prepares
routine reports; orders and stocks medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Requires
current certification as a Pharmacy Technician from the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board.

Minimum Qualifications

1) Licensure as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
2) Experience adjudicating third-party claims.
3) Experience managing pharmaceutical inventory.
4) Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word.
5) Experience assisting pharmacist with dispensing drugs by preparing pharmacy labels and
prescriptions.
6) Experience entering data into a prescription/patient pharmacy data management system.

Additional Considerations

11) Experience working in a pharmacy.
12) Familiar with working in a public health setting.
13) Repackaging medications
14) QS/1 database experience
