The Senior Compliance Officer - Biosecurity will coordinate and co-lead the implementation of regulatory frameworks for the Plants, Chemicals and Invasives Branch within the Compliance and Invasive Species Team. The position will facilitate the delivery of directions and standards for regulatory projects including the review of associated documentation such as infringement notices and briefs of evidence. 

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of operational procedures for compliance activities, undertake review and quality assurance of compliance documentation including infringements and briefs, provide authoritative advice on biosecurity legislation, including the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 (CaLP Act), for authorised staff and management, update training modules for authorised officers, and maintain online standard documentation and databases.

The position will liaise with the Department's Prosecution Services team to provide authoritative advice on investigations, reporting and continuous improvement. The position will also contribute to Departmental priority and emergency responses. 

You will require well developed project management, communication and report writing skills, as well as the ability to participate as part of a multi-functional team.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to deliver regulatory directions and standards to authorised officers and management. An understanding of legislation relating to biosecurity regulation in Victoria and the ability to interpret and apply legislation. Demonstrated experience in the preparation of briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language. Ensures written communications contain necessary information to achieve the intended purpose while applying appropriate styles and formats.  Ability to keep stakeholders informed and engaged while managing their expectations on outcomes. Ability in planning and prioritising work to ensure outcomes are achieved. Uses strengths to contribute constructively and demonstrates accountability for delivering on expectations. 

Mandatory qualification

Tertiary degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent science qualification. Candidates must have these qualifications to be considered eligible and verification is required prior to appointment. 

This is a fixed term position available for a period until 26 September 2025. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
