Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) seeks a results-driven leader to join our team as a Deputy Assistant Director for our Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) Division. ACI is a self-funded business within ADCRR with over $52,000,000 in sales for FY 2023. ACI creates innovative solutions and products for customers while helping thousands of inmates build Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to help them now and after release. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, this position will help guide the agency’s mission and vision while also developing and implementing strategies to increase production and maximize revenue. Strong leadership skills, vendor management and a proven track record of driving revenue are essential for this position. The Deputy Assistant Director will administer, coordinate, plan, direct, manage, and oversee all ACI activities in an effort to help inmates gain skills that will help them secure employment upon their release, while also increasing ACI’s annual revenue.

Job Duties:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry has embarked on a vision of REIMAGINING CORRECTIONS through four overarching and mission-centered goals:

Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership to and managerial oversight of specific Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) functions, specifically direct oversight of the owned and operated businesses within ACI
- Manage sales, customer service, marketing and Arizona Management System (AMS) activities within all of ACI
- Assist in planning, developing and implementing new products, production businesses, and services
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures specific to ACI in compliance with ADCRR policies, Arizona State and Federal laws
- Attend executive-level meetings, participate in multi-disciplinary work teams, represent the agency at community events, and facilitate/attend training sessions
- Administer current manufacturing processes and Develop additional manufacturing opportunities.
- Supervise subordinate employees, including reviews of work production and approval of leave.
- Conduct interviews and issue discipline.
- Provide administrative leadership, ensuring completion of necessary reports such as strategic plans, statistical, and annual reporting.
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Assistant Director
- Drive on State business
- Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment

Selective Preference(s):

- MBA degree in marketing, manufacturing, or management discipline
- Experience in areas of sales, marketing, manufacturing, management, advertising and customer service
- Experience in seminars, trade shows, vendor-sponsored training, and contracted outside classes are excellent resources to supplement education
- Knowledge of lean Six Sigma processes preferred

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

If this position requires driving or using a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid, class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) ).

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
