Position Overview:
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is on the lookout for a dedicated Youth Correctional Administrator who is eager to make a significant impact on the lives of Arizona's youth. Reporting to the Secure Care Bureau Administrator, the Youth Correctional Administrator will play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of operations within the Housing Units at Adobe Mountain School, while also leading facility management efforts. This role encompasses the responsibility of ensuring optimal service delivery across all programs, which includes evaluating service effectiveness, developing and implementing improvement processes, and fostering collaboration among various programs to achieve shared objectives. Key Responsibilities:
• Establish and implement goals and objectives that prioritize the safety and security of youth, staff, and visitors.
• Provide ongoing specialized training focused on security and safety issues within the housing units; mentor staff on effective interventions to minimize violent incidents, enforce expectations, and recommend security enhancements.
• Directly oversee Housing Unit Managers while providing indirect supervision to Sergeants, YPOIII's, and Correctional Officers.
• Offer mentorship and guidance to staff at Adobe Mountain School, ensuring they uphold security, custody, control, and accountability of the youth population.
• Conduct inspections of youth living areas and staff workspaces to guarantee security, sanitation, and safety standards are met.
• Complete employee evaluations, conduct one-on-one meetings, and provide necessary training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure compliance with agency training standards.
• Participate in the hiring process, preparing and submitting requests for disciplinary actions as needed.
• Prepare and interpret various reports, including scheduling, quality assurance, incident reports, and housing unit head counts.
• Analyze data for trends and compliance, actively participating in agency meetings and committees.
• Oversee staff scheduling to ensure compliance with youth/staff ratios as per established guidelines.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
• State juvenile justice systems and their operations.
• Human behavior dynamics and crisis intervention techniques.
• Computerized documentation systems relevant to correctional facilities.
• Correctional management practices and policies governing facility security and custody.
• Federal, state, and agency regulations affecting juvenile correctional operations.
• Supervisory and managerial methods applicable in a correctional setting.
• Communication systems, including two-way radios and other devices.
Skills in:
• Basic mathematics.
• Leadership, supervision, and training methodologies.
• Motivational and instructional techniques.
• Proficient use of computer applications (Microsoft Office and Google Suite).
Ability to:
• Understand and apply federal, state, and agency regulations.
• Follow agency policies and procedures effectively.
• Learn youth management and treatment strategies, including crisis intervention.
• Utilize radio communication effectively.
• Implement security practices, including therapeutic crisis intervention.
• De-escalate youth behavior appropriately.
• Collaborate closely with adjudicated youth in a secure environment.
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Youth Program Supervisor.
• Alternatively, experience in equivalent or higher roles within similar classifications.
• At least 4 years of experience working with youth in secure care settings, along with 2 years of supervisory experience.
• A Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral science may substitute for 2 years of supervisory experience.
For positions requiring driving, candidates must possess a valid driver's license and complete all necessary training and checks. All new hires must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) and pass a comprehensive background investigation, behavioral assessment, drug screening, and physical examination.
