The Oregon Convention Center is one of the largest convention facilities in the Pacific Northwest, attracting out-of-town visitors to national conventions, tradeshows and meetings, and local people to special events. The convention center’s roughly 150 employees host more than 1 million visitors each year.

The Oregon Convention Center is searching for a Public Safety Manager. This position will supervise our 24/7 Public Safety Department. As the Public Safety Manager, this position must be able to perform all the essential job duties listed below; however, this list is not intended to include all of the specific tasks which an employee in this position may be expected to perform. The position supervises and supports public safety services to the venue, staff, clients, attendees, and events at the Oregon Convention Center.

As the Public Safety Manager, this role will:

Proficient in the use of standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as video surveillance and access control software. Comfortable and adaptable to a digital work environment and learning new software and applications quickly. Knowledge of current and proposed legislation and laws of the local, state, and federal governments that affect public safety. Builds and maintains positive relationships and contributes to a positive team atmosphere; engages others in ways that foster respect and trust. Provides excellent customer service – assists the public, public officials, agency partners, and other employees in a professional and courteous manner with the goal of meeting or exceeding expectations. Demonstrates sustainable practices in applicable field and generally for resource use and protection. Works in a safe manner and follows safety policies, practices, and procedures. Skilled in developing program goals and objectives. Is knowledgeable of management and supervisory principles and practices, and organizational development principles and practices. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work a flexible schedule to address the needs of the department. The full salary range for this position is step # 1, $84,726.00 to step # 7, $113,541. However, unless a candidate’s qualifications justify, based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements and Metro’s internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between Step 1, $84,726.00 to the equity range Step # 4, $98,081.00.
This position is not eligible for overtime and is non-represented. It is classified as a Service Supervisor III (Download PDF reader) Classification.
