Job Summary
Clackamas County is seeking highly motivated and self-directed candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills for the position of Deputy Sheriff, Law Enforcement Officer. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining order in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in investigations and interrogations, gathering evidence and taking statements.
- Patrol roads, highways, and business areas to enforce traffic and criminal laws.
- Prepare detailed reports for efficient and complete investigations, crime prevention, prosecution, and office procedures.
- Operate equipment in the performance of duties.
- Make arrests, book prisoners, transport prisoners and patients under custody to institutions, courts, and on extraditions.
- Serve subpoenas and warrants of arrest.
- Inform the public and answer inquiries regarding laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
- Appear in court as a witness.
- Provide education and safety presentations to the public.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age by the date of employment.
- Must be a United States citizen or be one within 18 months of hire.
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate of high school equivalency, or a bachelor degree from an accredited institution.
- Must be free from criminal convictions other than minor traffic violations.
- Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State.
- Must be legally able to possess a firearm.
- Must meet the minimum standards for employment as a law enforcement officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0010.
- Must be able to be certified as a police officer by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).
- Must meet the visual and hearing acuity requirements as detailed in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0000.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of civil law and first aid.
- Knowledge of police practices and techniques of investigations.
Work Schedule
The Patrol Division operates on a four-day work week, ten-hour day basis. Shift schedules are determined by seniority and the collective bargaining agreement.
