Job Summary

The Natural Resources Division is seeking a full-time permitting assistant to process and track Land Disturbance/Grading Permits and Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program (VESMP) Permits. This position provides front-line customer service by assisting customers with permit applications, answering questions about permit processing, providing regulatory information about erosion and sediment control (ESC) and stormwater management, and resolving customer service issues. This position ensures that all applications received through the County's land management system are complete and accurate and that invoices are processed and paid for each application. The Permit Technician is responsible for maintaining electronic permit files and forms used by customers and staff and works with members of the ESC and VESMP teams to ensure that electronic files are complete and accurate. This position also assists with processing land disturbance/grading permit renewals, VESMP annual maintenance fees, VESMP permit renewals, and grading bond reductions and releases.

This position requires knowledge of computer systems and standard office applications. The ideal candidate must have skills in communicating technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing, and should have the ability to analyze permits to address incomplete or conflicting information. The ideal candidate should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public and should effectively be able to work in a team environment. 

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related customer service and/or cash handling work experience in a technical work environment involving computer automated systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
