Summary

This position is in the Defender Services Branch of the Budget and Finance Division of the District of Columbia Courts. The Branch Chief, Defender Services Programs Branch, is responsible for the timely and accurate review and payment of claims for services under the Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) program, the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) program, and the Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Program.

Duties

Brief Description of Major Duties:

Develops and implements the automated processes and procedures used to record and monitor the status and payment of claims. Ensures data on all Defender Services programs are prepared and maintained. Manages and trains employees on automated and manual processes. Ensures all employees are informed of new regulations and procedures regarding automated and financial matters and ensures compliance with fiscal policy. Implements operating methods in committing funds for obligations and disbursements. Monitors accounting events to ensure their timely occurrence. Develops and maintains fiscal policies and procedures for the branch programs. Issues and processes payment vouchers (representing claims for services), including the accurate compilation of the programs’ weekly payrolls. Performs special reviews and analyses and prepares special reports relating to the Defender Services programs’ expenditures. Investigates and resolves areas of discrepancies. Develops and implements internal controls to ensure the proper reporting of expenditures and to safeguard assets and official documents. Composes correspondence on matters related to the Defender Services programs. Identifies and corrects deficiencies in the Defender Services programs and streamlines reporting.
