Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Maritime and Aviation Appraisal and Modelling (MavAM) team, acting as the lead for two business critical models � the Aviation Model and the Maritime Emissions Model. MAvAM play a pivotal role in providing robust and influential modelling and appraisal outputs to shape aviation and maritime policy and support wider transport policy.

AMBA (Aviation, Maritime and Borders Analysis) is a multi-disciplinary analytical division with around 60 high-performing team members who provide expertise on modelling, economic analysis, statistical analysis, operation research, social research and advice on appraisal and evaluation to shape strategic thinking and policy development.��

Team members work flexibly across team boundaries, supporting each other to deliver against the priorities for the Aviation, Maritime and Security Group. Roles in AMBA provide the opportunity to work closely alongside other analytical colleagues and internal and external industry partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The post-holder will take on the exciting and demanding role of leading the Maritime and Aviation Appraisal and Modelling team to provide robust emissions forecasts in the aviation and maritime sector and passenger forecasts in the aviation sector.�

The post-holder will provide line management support to two Economic Advisers (Grade 7) and three transport modellers (Grade 7), alongside playing an essential role as a member of the AMBA Senior Leaders Team to support the Heads of AMBA to lead and develop the division (deputising when necessary).� �

This demanding post requires a mix of policy delivery, strong communication and influencing skills, project management and strategic and technical analytical expertise in a number of important and challenging policy areas.

Key areas of work lead by the team over the next six months are likely to include:�

Leading the development programme for the maritime emissions modelEnsuring quality assurance of updated aviation forecastsProducing model runs to support work leading up to Carbon Budget 7��

About you

To thrive in this role, you will

Have demonstrable experience managing an analytical work programme for a policy area.Possess Experience of distilling complex analysis and effectively communicating to a range of audiences, spanning expert analysts to non-analyst senior decision makers.Have experience of demonstrating effective leadership in motivating others to get the best out of them, ensuring everyone clearly understands their responsibilities and priorities.Be experienced with working around transport models.

Additional information

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.�
