Working as a Business Unit Manager, Project Controls at BAE Systems, Inc. is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high-tech team of people developing innovative products for the Aerospace and Defense industry. You will be responsible for cost and schedule integration on programs in the Tactical Solutions Business Area.

This person will manage and direct the activities of employees in the Tactical Solutions Project Controls organization. This role will be responsible for comprehensively managing, communicating, and reporting the financial execution of programs in Tactical Solutions. The role must show expertise and mastery of and responsibility for leading program finance execution teams with adherence to the BAE Systems SMS Project Controls policies, EVM System Description and the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). This person will help foster innovative approaches within Project Controls in support of procedures and policies.

The Finance Strategic Capabilities Unit delivers the expertise and business acumen to increase value across the enterprise by providing actionable information with recommendations and opportunities to drive sustainable business growth.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage and direct the project controls activities across the SBU and functionally supervise Tactical Solutions Project Controls Analysts employees).
  • Hire appropriate staff to be engaged in the winning and execution of on-going business and new program starts.
  • Manage all financial aspects of each program, including baselining, performance, cost/schedule integration, internal/external reporting, sales forecasts, variance analysis, and implementation of Tier 1 and 2 EVM requirements.
  • Support programs by providing accurate quarterly forecasts and provide guidance to maintain SBU financial commitments with the Annual Operating Plan/Integrated Business Plan.
  • Work collaboratively with FP&A to communicate and report accurate financial status for Tactical Solutions.
  • Serve as business advisor to Tactical Solutions SBU senior leadership for program financial projection, financial status and assessment of risks & opportunities.
  • Support development and maintenance of program and indirect budgets.
  • Ensure compliance of all program related changes, including change proposals and undefinitized contract actions. Collaborate with new business teams to ensure efficient program start up.
  • Manage the integration and implementation of new or existing policies and procedures and support SBU requests and special projects.
  • Resolve business problems with management or customer representatives.
  • Support furthering the financial acumen of SBU management, department personnel and other employees.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure personal growth and management visibility.
  • Oversee lessons learned documentation, assessment & implementation of corrective action/improvements.
  • Partner with SBU operations/program excellence team to facilitate incorporation of Lifecycle Management practices.
  • Support the development of overall objectives, strategies, and long-range goals of personnel.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

  • BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • 5 years of managerial experience.
  • 5 years of Project Controls experience.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience required – direct experience working full 32 criteria earned value programs, in the past 3 years.
  • Solid strategic and data analytical skills, including metrics, cost estimates, profitability, and risk.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $ $199000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
