  • At least five years of managing and motivating high-performing and high-achieving teams, including organization of priorities, clear communication of expectations, recruitment, training, and retention.
  • Experience working in a leadership role with boards, senior management staff, major gift donors, and support organizations.

  • Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships throughout the institution.
  • Sound financial acumen and knowledge of budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.
  • Tech-savvy; facility with basic business software and with commonly used fundraising prospect research and pipeline management tools.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills across multiple levels, including the HoMA Board, leadership, donors, and volunteers, paired with the ability to nurture strong, long-lasting individual and institutional relationships.
  • Relationship management skills and discretion while working with donors, trustees, and partners.
  • Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
  • Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
  • Ability to build, lead, and develop a driven, diverse team of employees and volunteers.

  • Understanding of and ability to navigate the unique and diverse Hawaiʻi fundraising community.
  • Certification in non-profit management or fundraising.

  • Establishes annual and long-term Advancement goals for the Honolulu Museum of Art that are ambitious but achievable.
  • Grows fundraising year over year by stewarding existing supporters, bringing in new donors, planning future capital campaign(s), and working with the Director & CEO on finding new funding sources and prioritizing current channels.
  • Maintains a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and secures major, capital, and planned gifts.
  • Collaborates with the Director & CEO, COO, Curatorial Staff, and Trustees on targeted prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of individual and institutional funders.
  • Provides day-to-day mentorship and supervision of the Advancement team, creating a positive workplace environment that promotes employee engagement, satisfaction, and high performance.

  • Under the guidance of the Director & CEO, develops and nurtures a strong working relationship with the board of trustees, presenting regular reports, sharing information and ensuring their enthusiastic engagement in the fundraising process. Serves as the staff liaison for the Advancement Committee.
  • Applies industry best practices to all development decision-making, policies, and functions.
  • Collaborates closely with the finance team in the forecasting and tracking of contributed revenue.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through respectful communication and cooperation with others at all times, continuous training and modeling inclusive behaviors.
