The Stanford Outpatient Imaging Centers have the state-of-the-art MRI (1.5 T and 3T MRI) scanners, Digital Mammography, Ultrasound and Bone Density, offering referring physicians and patients easy access to the latest advances in imaging.

A Brief Overview


Under medical supervision, performs all Nuclear Medicine and PET/MRI procedures on patients of all ages utilizing various types of imaging equipment.

Prepares diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals for administration following current radiation safety guidelines and assists in the administration of therapeutic doses.

This position follows State and Federal guidelines for the safe use, receipt, and disposals of radioactive materials used in Nuclear Medicine.

The PET & MIR Technologist schedules studies in RIS & EPIC computer system using good judgment in prioritizing patient scheduling.

The PET & MIR Technologist works with physicians in Nuclear Medicine & MRI to provide a safe and effective operation.

This position may be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the training of Radiology students, House Staff and Residents in Nuclear Medicine & MRI procedures, protocols, equipment, and safety issues.

What you will do

  • Assists in instructing the Residents and other technologists.
  • Calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients.
  • Cleans and organizes the section/unit on own initiative, maintains cleanliness and orderliness in assigned camera room.
  • Evaluates recorded images for technical quality.
  • Formulates radiopharmaceutical materials from preprepared kits. Calibrates instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment to make necessary orders and helps develops new programs to comply with State and Federal Agencies.
  • Performs a full range of nuclear medicine prescribed imaging techniques and measurements used in medical diagnosis and evaluation.
  • Performs general work when able and helps schedules, work assignments, and staff technologists with section organization and development.
  • Prepares and maintain records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing, and disposal activities.
  • Processes computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT images and accurately transfer images to the system.
  • Serves as a team leader with staff. Sets goals to move section to be a more effective unit.
  • Works with Supervisor to have section/unit meet all ALARA (As Low As Reasonably achievable) Goals.
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge of radiation accidents and is capable of responding to a major accident.
  • The PET-MRI technologist will follow all policies and procedures outlined by the department.
Qualifications

  • Requirement met by License/Certification Requirement
  • Two (2) years of clinical PET responsible and directly related work experience

  • Basic Life Support and


NMT-RHN
  • CA Nuclear Medicine Tech and


ARRT-N
  • Reg Tech Rad-Nuclear Med Tech or


NMTCB
  • Nuclear Medicine Tech
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to accurately measure extremely small quantities of liquid samples
  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to perform required sequences of exacting procedures with accuracy and necessary speed
  • Ability to perform standard diagnostic procedures using radioactive isotopes and to prepare reports resulting from such procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and related functionalities
  • Knowledge of principles, and procedures involved in the operation of radiologic equipment
  • Knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to PET, Nuclear Medicine and MRI
  • Knowledge of MRI physics, physiology, structural and organic anatomy including crosssectional anatomy
  • Knowledge of MRI techniques, methods, and equipment
  • Knowledge of MRI quality control and quality assurance
  • Knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and related functionalities
  • Knowledge of methods of positioning patients for radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging procedures
  • Knowledge of principles of image processing and development applicable to diagnostic imaging

Generally starting at $ $84.87 per hour


The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
