Technical Architecture Team: The Technical Domain Architecture team consists of hands-on engineers with expertise in various technical domains. In addition, technical architects will lead agile guilds for their domain - communities of practice that share technical knowledge across IQVIA's federated engineering teams.

The Position's Overview/Elevator Pitch: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Cloud Architect to join our Technical Domain Architecture team within the Architecture and Standards Group of our Global Technology Organization. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in cloud architecture, strong leadership skills, a proven track record of designing and implementing robust cloud solutions and a thorough understanding of software architecture principles. As the principal cloud architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our cloud strategy (e.g. multi/hybrid-cloud), guiding the development of our internal developer portal and ensuring seamless integration of cloud infrastructure.

Essential Functions:

  • Author Standards and Best Practices: Author and maintain standards and best practices documents for cloud-native applications and services to ensure consistency, security and efficiency across IQVIA.
  • Collaboration: Lead the Cloud Guild and collaborate with cross-functional teams including software and data engineers, DevOps and security experts.
  • Innovation: Serve as the cloud services thought leader, recommending the appropriate services and solutions to improve our system designs. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cloud services.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain the Cloud adoption strategy related to multi and hybrid cloud deployments, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and technology strategy. Incorporate best practices into the organization's cloud strategy.
  • Developer Productivity and Experience: Contribute to the design of the Internal Developer Portal (DevIQ) related to the use of cloud services. Design reference architectures and develop reference implementations.
  • Cloud Governance: Establish and document the full lifecycle of cloud governance policies, standards, best practices, and testing techniques.
  • Vendor and Tool Evaluation: Evaluate cloud services and vendors to balance functionality, cost, developer experience, performance, and observability.
  • Security: Implement robust security measures to protect cloud infrastructure from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentors

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development and architecture.
  • Proven experience as a cloud architect, with a strong portfolio of successful cloud projects.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Proficiency in cloud infrastructure as code tools (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi, AWS CDK)
  • Proven experience in authoring technical standards and best practices documentation for cloud-native applications and services
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud services supporting compute (serverless, container orchestrators), storage, search, caches, monitoring, IAM, configuration/parameter storage, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with AI/ML workloads in the cloud
