GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Imaging Services/Radiology, assists to facilitate the coordination of Operations, Quality/Performance Improvement and Regulatory Compliance at assigned Hospital. Coordinates and performs studies covering patient care processes, process improvement, and regulatory requirements. Focuses on policies and improvement with coordination of the Johns Hopkins Healthcare System (JHHS) to create a seamless transition for patients between all imaging departments. Serves as a team leader on committees as assigned. Works to ensure assigned Hospital meets all regulatory requirements and can provide appropriate data submission to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), Joint Commission, and Department of Health related to the Imaging department. Manages and coordinates activities and functions of Imaging Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as the direct supervisor for Service Coordinators, Lead Technologists, and the non-clinical area leads at assigned hospital. Participates in the submission of position requisitions, interviewing, selection, and onboarding of radiology staff as needed.
  2. Assists in developing, implementing, and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Communicates hospital policies, objectives, and operational procedures to department employees. Resolves operating problems concerning items such as staffing, utilization of hospital facilities, equipment, supplies and interdepartmental communication.
  3. Make daily rounds throughout the department. Conducts visual spot checks of patient care areas to ensure their comfort, safety, and timely start/completion of their exams. Implements process changes as needed to improve the efficiency and quality of work in the department.
  4. Investigates, mediates, and takes appropriate action to resolve complaints or problems with customer satisfaction.
  5. Represents the department on committees, and multi-disciplinary teams as needed.
  6. Manages Kronos timecards and weekly/monthly staff schedules for each modality.
  7. Monitors and evaluates employee performance and clinical outcomes. Initiates performance improvement actions as needed. Provides educational opportunities for staff improvement.
  8. Maintains the confidentiality of patient, employee, and organizational information.
  9. Serves as a facilitator for Joint Commission and Department of Health preparation activities for the Imaging department.
  10. Collaborates with Johns Hopkins Imaging entities to provide ongoing education for staff on Joint Commission standards, elements of performance, National Patient Safety goals and radiation safety.
  11. Works with the Biomed department and vendors to keep track of all service calls and preventive maintenance for all imaging equipment.
  12. Works closely with the Radiation Safety Officer to track ALARA reports and assists in the management of the radiation safety program for Imaging Services.
  13. Provides technical assistance in establishing and meeting budgetary requirements in the purchase of supplies to meet organizational needs.
  14. Participates in the procurement process of capital equipment.
  15. Ensures the appropriate and safe functionality of equipment and systems in the department.
  16. Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations relating to radiation safety, electrical, or fire hazards.
  17. Acts as a liaison between hospital and medical staff departments when quality improvement and patient care issues arise.
  18. Maintains statistical data and prepares a variety of reports reflecting patient care, workload, and other departmental activities.
  19. Facilitates management of data collection and analysis for patient satisfaction surveys, CMS HCAHPS patient satisfaction surveys, safety culture surveys, or other survey results as administered by the hospital or health system.
  20. Attends and/or conducts monthly departmental staff meetings. Must be available on-call on a rotating basis for administrative matters that occur after hours and if necessary, return to the department.
  21. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  22. Functions as the Acting Director of Imaging Services/Radiology in the absence of the Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of all Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agencies standards, conditions of participation, and requirements.
  2. Experienced leader and facilitator of Quality/Performance Improvement projects and teams.
  3. Must have strong process evaluation and development skills.
  4. Familiar with hospital and medical data, data sources, and statistical analysis. Experience with information systems management, word processing, graphics, and spreadsheet management.
  5. Familiar with the policies and procedures of the hospital and the functions of the hospital departments.
  6. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to prepare and give presentations.
  7. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects and activities.
  8. Must have a diverse background in imaging, quality, and safety (patient and radiation).
  9. Organize work in an efficient manner. Works well under stress and time pressures.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in the Radiologic Sciences, Life Sciences ,or Business (preferred)
  2. Five years' experience as a technologist with previous supervisory experience required.
  3. Minimum four (4) years hospital experience, specifically in an Imaging leadership role or the equivalent combination of education and direct experience working in Imaging, Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance.
  4. Current ARRT Certification.
  5. Current CPR Certification.
