CDM Smith's CEI team in San Juan is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). The candidate must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities of construction inspection including: 1) Roadway 2) Bridges 3) Drainage 4) Erosion & Control 5) Maintenance & Traffic. Candidate will work under limited supervision. Work will require the knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and communications ability.

Primary Responsibilities:

Performing both complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.

Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform construction inspection.

Works under limited supervision and keeps the project engineer informed of project activities on the project on a daily basis.

Reviews CPM schedules, monthly invoices, material submittals, shop drawings, as-built drawings, contractor requests, and provide recommendations to the project engineer.

Reviewing drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.

Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected. Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.

*Minimum Qualifications:*

High School diploma or equivalent. Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction in which they will be working. Must possess a valid drivers license. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

*Preferred Qualifications:*

? Experience working on embankment stabilization and reconstruction, reinforced soil slope systems, mechanically stabilized earth walls, drainage systems installation, construction of earth retaining structures (including reinforced concrete, sheet pile, and soldier pile retaining walls), gabion and gravity retaining walls, roadway excavation & fill, asphalt pavement, pavement markings, guardrail, temporary traffic control implementation and maintenance of traffic, erosion and sedimentation control, and other miscellaneous heavy highway construction and related project inspection work.

? Experience working with EFLHD FP?14 and/or PRHTA standards and specifications.

? Inspector should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, word, etc. ) and Adobe Acrobat (pdf).

? Bilingual (Spanish and English) candidates preferred; be able to read, write and speak Spanish and English, at a minimum, the ability to make oneself understood to all Spanish and English speaking individuals.

? Ability to report to various project site locations in Puerto Rico on a daily basis.
