Under general supervision, assists in the planning and coordination of programs and services designed to enhance collegiate experiences and to promote the general development and welfare of Angelo State University students. Oversee the development of programs, including approval and supervision of student events, and coordinate campus-wide events in the creation of a vibrant campus activities program. Develops positive and active working relationships with internal and external constituents to create synergies across departments related to programming, resolution of student issues, and other matters of common interest.

Typical Duties/Job Duties Direct and Advise the University Center Program Council
  • Develop resources and direct the planning, production, and evaluation of social, educational, and leadership programs sponsored by the UCPC committees.
  • Create, implement, manage, and develop a robust activities programming model including the summer.
  • Supervise and assist students in the development, marketing and implementation of programs and events.
  • Educate students in event planning procedures and group management techniques.
  • Plan, develop, and present UCPC training sessions and work to reach the point to simply provide guidance to the UCPC Executive Board in order for those students to plan, develop, and present the training sessions.
  • Coordinate the preparation and negotiation of contracts and contract riders.
  • Work with entertainers and agents.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of informational materials regarding UCPC and Student Life events, activities, and schedules.
  • Review incoming programming materials.
Support and Develop Campus Spirit Programs
  • Create, develop, and sustain a student group to work in conjunction with the cheer, mascot, and dance teams to foster a vibrant atmosphere with student engagement at athletic games and events.
  • Support cheer, mascot, and dance coaches in productions and activities at games and events, ensuring professionalism and excellence.
  • Attends select athletic events and functions to provide direct support to existing spirit programs and to further develop the game atmosphere for the ASU student population.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Student Affairs division with the Athletic department point of contact to identify, theme, promote, and develop game and event support.
Student Leadership and Training
  • Lead department efforts with student leadership and training programs.
  • Plan, develop, and co-facilitate a comprehensive leadership development program to create learning opportunities for students who serve or plan to serve in leadership roles within the university.
  • Assist in providing support to other student development programs.
  • Attend and participate in department, division, and university special events.
Data Collection, Management, and Reporting
  • Prepare and tracks bid specifications, purchase requests, budget expenses and revenue for the UCPC and other Student Life programs.
  • Present data for monthly planning and effectiveness reports.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate action plans and events.
  • Manage and oversee data collection and tracking of student participation in Student Life programming.
  • Manage expense accounts for program areas and associated income accounts.
Personnel Management, Supervision, and Communication
  • Communicate in a professional, service-oriented manner with students, staff, faculty, visitors and others in the course of performing work or coordinating tasks.
  • Seek collaboration across the university and within the community.
  • Draft and prepare internal memos and routine correspondence.
  • Utilize e-mail and other technology tools to communicate with students, staff, faculty, and external people/groups.
  • Manage annual budget and reporting.
  • Manage and review program area publications, including oversite of webpage materials and other online resources.
  • Provide strategic leadership to professional staff, graduate assistants, and students through the completion of job duties.
  • Establish job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluate staff under charge.
  • Supervise student employees, including overseeing all aspects of hiring, expectation setting, training, mentoring, work assignments, performance management and evaluations, and disciplinary processes.
  • Serve as the initial approver for select employment timesheets.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other departments, offices, students, and outside agencies;
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets;
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings/nights and weekends;
  • Must be able to be an approved driver for the university.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university;
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the University's insurance company is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's in College Student Personnel or Master's Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field preferred;
  • 3-5 years of successful professional experience in Student Affairs, including event programming and advising student groups;
  • Supervisory experience helpful;
  • Experience as a member and/or advisor to a university student activities board/council is desirable.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires intermittent sitting and prolonged periods of bending, standing, reaching, and carrying;
  • Lifting objects up to 50 lbs.;
  • Medium level manual dexterity is necessary
  • Works both inside and outside;
  • Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.
