Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the prevention, detection, and elimination of fraud, waste, mismanagement, and corruption within the Department of Human Services. This function is carried out by planning, coordinating, and supervising the independent appraisal of auditable entities of the Department of Human Services, as well as following up on deficiencies identified in audit reports issued by legislative and other external auditors, and advising management of our findings and recommendations; and conducting special audits of DHR units, contractors, vendors, and providers.\r

POSITION DUTIES

\r
Assists the Audit Director with the planning, coordination, and supervision of headquarters, LDSS, and special audits. This is done in compliance with professional standards established by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), government auditing requirements, and widely accepted auditing standards released by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).\r
Reviews and approves staff-prepared working papers to ensure that audit goals are accomplished and that adequate, competent, relevant, and meaningful evidence is acquired to document audit findings and conclusions.\r
Creates accurate, clear, succinct, and timely audit reports that address findings and related recommendations for submission to the Secretary.\r
\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r

Education:�� A Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.\r
Experience: Four years of experience conducting financial and operational internal audits that include elements for finance and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program results.\r

1. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.\r
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university�for one year of the required experience \r
3. Candidates may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for one year of the required experience. \r
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. \r
