The Events Manager will oversee NERA's global events function, independently managing events to align with the firm's strategy and promote best practices. The Events Manager will have overall responsibility for internal and external events, including client receptions, webinars, seminars, multi-day conferences, and corporate hospitality, ensuring that events are effectively planned and managed from initiation through to post-event evaluation and follow-up. Reporting to the Director of Marketing Operations, the Events Manager will supervise an Events Specialist and work closely with experts, marketing teammates, and other colleagues.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages coordination of all aspects of events, from planning and development to execution and post-event follow-up, in collaboration with the marketing and business development team.
  • Designs exceptional attendee experiences for high-end client receptions and meetings.
  • Regularly communicates with consultants and practice managers to develop concepts for events, including creating agendas, course materials, etc.; to provide planning and RSVP updates; and to identify appropriate event follow-up activities to maximize business development potential.
  • Works with marketing managers and in-house design staff to develop creative and compelling event themes and invitations.
  • Creates and manages budgets of varying sizes, tracking and demonstrating ROI and preparing reports for key stakeholders.
  • Tracks and utilizes data from past events to enact changes to improve future results.
  • Understands and negotiates contracts for venues, caterers, and other vendors and suppliers.
  • Builds and maintains an international network of venues and third-party resources.
  • Maintains the firm-wide calendar of events and events-related content on the firm's website.
  • Implements best practices, policies, and workflow procedures to ensure the efficient and effective execution of all events.
  • Researches, solicits proposals from, and conducts site visits and inspections of potential event properties, including hotels and resorts, restaurants, bar/lounges, and special event spaces. Prepares visual presentations and/or cost-comparison spreadsheets of venue recommendations, as requested.
  • Develops and manages event timelines, communicating deadlines and assignments to marketing staff and consultants, as necessary.
  • Uses the firm's CRM system to run reports, manage lists, and track RSVPs, attendance, follow-up, etc.
  • Create event registration pages, microsites, and mobile applications using Cvent.
  • Manages other logistics, including, but not limited to: communications/invitations, RSVPs, room blocks, group air travel and ground transportation, food and beverage, room set-up, speakers, AV, printed materials, off-site activities, giveaways, shipping, and branding.
  • Manages and assigns tasks to on-site staff, which may include other members of the marketing department, other NERA staff, or vendors/consultants.
  • Works with organizations that approve CLE, CDP, and other professional education credits for course accreditation.
  • Manages and replenishes the NERA corporate gift store.
  • Oversees the work and professional development of an Events Specialist.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • At least five years of relevant events experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • CMP, CSEP, or CMM certification strongly preferred.
  • Broad and thorough knowledge of corporate events planning.
  • Client service mentality and a professional presence.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with a team and have the drive to bring projects to completion.
  • Able to bring a strategic mindset to events and identify the business case for participation in events, sponsorships, etc.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills required, with ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to handle tight deadlines, shifting priorities, and the ability to find creative solutions.
  • Experience working within an international team preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact diplomatically and work effectively with all constituencies, including senior-level management, marketing team members, and outside vendors.
  • Willing and able to travel domestic and internationally and work flexible hours when necessary.
  • Proactive and positive style. Proficiency in MS Office suite required; experience with Cvent (or similar events management system) and Salesforce [or similar client relationship management (CRM) system] preferred.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $90,000 to $130,000. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
