Job Description

Functions as member of interdisciplinary team, including organizing and providing quality patient care services.

Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

For paramedics working inside the hospital, care is delivered under the supervision of a licensed professional.

The Acute Care Paramedic provides direct and indirect patient care.


The Acute Care Paramedic guides and collaborates with other healthcare professionals, coordinates with ancillary staff, and functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta within the legal framework of the state.

Experience

  • Must be in compliance with, state continuing education requirements as outlined by Georgia Code 3, and DHR regulations for paramedics
  • Three years of experience in patient care
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in IV insertion, with pediatric experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
Education

  • High school degree or equivalent
Certification Summary

  • Georgia Paramedic license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Competencies as defined by department must be completed within six months of employment
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

  • Demonstrates comprehensive assessment skills within scope of assigned responsibilities, including, but not limited to Ultrasound Guided PIV placement, assists PICC nurse in sterile PICC line placement, central line dressing changes, and infiltration/extravasation management and treatment recommendations.
  • Assists in delivery of patient care using age and developmentally appropriate interventions according to individual licensure, departmental protocols, and standards of care.
  • Prioritizes and delivers dependable, effective patient care consistently in a variety of patient situations.
  • Demonstrates five rights of medication administration within scope of practice.
  • Manages time effectively.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and adjusts plan of care.
  • Completes competencies and maintains educational development.
  • Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates ability to access and follow policies.
  • Participates in shift change report.
  • Supports and assists in orientation of new staff members.
  • Remains active member of unit or systembased Shared Leadership council or task force.
  • Uses material resources effectively.
