Chevron is accepting applications for a Counsel/Senior Counsel position with its Corporate Affairs & Strategy Law team through August 5th at 11:59 PM.

The Corporate Affairs & Strategy Law team (CASL) provides legal support to the company's central Strategic Business Solutions organization on a variety of enterprise-wide issues affecting the energy industry, including analysis and advocacy related to legislative and regulatory developments impacting oil and gas and alternative energy operations; voluntary and mandatory environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting; climate change and energy transition strategy and policy; and complex litigation and investigations that relate to these issues.

The work of the team often is done in coordination with the company's Corporate Affairs, Corporate Strategy, Business Development, Procurement and other organizations, as well as US and international business units, litigation management, and subject matter expert lawyers.

The attorney for this role is expected to be an involved, highly productive team member, working directly with and reporting to the CASL Managing Counsel.

Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. In addition, since the role supports multiple organizations that impact the business at both local and enterprise levels, the attorney must be able to work across multiple client and legal organizations simultaneously to align legal guidance and competing business priorities and be able to quickly adapt to a changing and dynamic portfolio.

  • Help lead legal support for compliance with emerging ESG reporting regimes (e.g. EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, International Sustainability Standards Board, etc.) and working with business clients across the enterprise to integrate reporting compliance into the company's business and strategy planning.
  • Providing advice on policies and strategies, including domestic and global regulatory frameworks related to oil and gas and the energy transition.
  • Offering general corporate and legal advice.
  • Assisting the Corporate Affairs organization in the development of advocacy and communication strategies on US federal, state, and local regulatory issues.
  • Teaming with functional subject matter experts, including internal clients and in-house counsel, to provide independent risk and exposure evaluations related to government and community engagement and advocacy.
  • Assist the company's Legislative and Regulatory Affairs organization in monitoring and giving guidance on pending and anticipated legislation and regulations.
  • Partnering effectively with and helping manage outside counsel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Articulate, detail-oriented and hard-working
  • Ability to work within a team-focused environment while maintaining independent, professional judgment and advice

Preferred Qualifications:
