Job Description

Diagnoses mechanical problems, repairs and rebuilds equipment; checks and schedules work with others; orders parts as needed, welds, sandblast and paints equipment. This position is located at Red Dog Mine, AK.

Responsibilities

Inspect and make repairs on all aspects of automotive vehicles and equipment. Do general and major work on vehicles, buses, light and heavy trucks, graders, and other automotive diesel and mechanical equipment.Inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and related parts.Tune motors using standard testing equipment. Repair and overhaul brakes, transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies; repair and install hydraulic controls.Perform different phases of tire work and minor body repairs.Perform emergency road repairs and test vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.Prepares shop work orders on equipment repair, and orders parts as need to maintain stock.Makes service call as needed.Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.This position has no supervisory responsibilities.Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience will be considered.Minimum five (5) years Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience repairing and troubleshooting Caterpillar mining equipment.Previous remote rotational work experience as Heavy Equipment Mechanic required.Working knowledge of Red Dog Mine facilities.Drivers License and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over, or crawl and talk or hear. Steel toed boots required on the job.

Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified. For this reason all Red Dog employees and contractors must have valid identification when traveling to and from the mine, for a list of TSA approved valid identification visit .
