Position Overview: The Facilities & Maintenance Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing and guiding the Facilities & Maintenance (F&M) shop mechanics to ensure operational support. This role is crucial in guaranteeing that the operational departments have fully functional container handling equipment, maintaining containers and miscellaneous equipment in optimal condition, managing labor and material repair costs, and upholding the safety, security, and morale of F&M personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct work assignments and supervise mechanics to ensure timely service delivery that meets operational needs while adhering to established maintenance, repair, and quality control protocols.
  • Assess mechanics' skills and technical knowledge to allocate work effectively.
  • Communicate and coordinate staffing and equipment needs with operational departments, striving for a productive, efficient, and safe environment aligned with fiscal year operational goals.
  • Manage mechanic check-ins, daily work assignments, timecard approvals, audits, and maintain a log of operational requirements for facilities and equipment maintenance.
  • Develop work schedules that align with company operations while ensuring compliance with company policies, house rules, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA).
  • Administer the facilities & maintenance collective bargaining agreement, ensuring fair and consistent disciplinary actions, promotion recommendations, and grievance resolutions.
  • Enforce the Stevedore Industry Committee Substance Abuse Policy Agreement.
  • Continuously monitor the work environment to ensure compliance with Company, State, and Federal regulations, maintaining productivity, safety, security, and quality.
  • Investigate incidents involving damage or injury, preparing detailed accident reports to comply with safety and damage prevention initiatives.
  • Utilize Company computer systems to ensure accurate data management for efficient equipment maintenance and cost control.
  • Recommend adjustments to parts inventory to optimize repair and maintenance processes, minimizing delays.
  • Complete special assignments as directed by the F&M Manager and propose enhancements to departmental effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, fostering integrity, accountability, and respect while building strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Proven management skills, capable of organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and customer requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, leveraging diverse talents to achieve outstanding results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with experience managing shop work within the company’s equipment database.
  • Preferred: College degree or equivalent technical education, with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of automotive, heavy equipment, welding, and refrigeration repairs is essential.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for operating company vehicles and may require travel.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current TWIC card.
  • Experience in a union environment is a plus.
