Overview
We are seeking a full-time Lead Cyber Security Engineer (Offensive) in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to Garmin's information security strategy, programs, and best practices. Responsibilities include scoping, designing, and implementing technical security controls (Firewall, IPS, Proxy Servers, SIEM), threat management, vulnerability management, protection controls, forensic investigation, security event monitoring, and incident detection tasks.
Additionally, you will design and anticipate possible security threats and identify areas of weakness in network systems, responding promptly and effectively to possible breaches of security in the Garmin ecosystem.
Essential Functions
- Proven track record of understanding and utilizing advanced tools including debuggers and fuzzers to identify, analyze, and exploit previously unknown bugs and buffer overflows to create zero-day exploits in software.
- Demonstrated proficiency with x86-based ASM language and interpreters.
- Demonstrated proficiency with both the Python and Ruby programming languages.
- Demonstrated proficiency in standard penetration testing frameworks including NIST
- Proven track record of understanding and utilizing advanced tools to identify, analyze, and exploit previously unknown bugs to create zero-day exploits in hardware/firmware.
- Perform in-depth penetration and security assessment testing for Garmin computer systems, products, and software on a global scale.
- Conduct regular security audits from both a logical/theoretical and a technical/hands-on standpoint.
- In-depth expertise with industry-trusted and fringe infrastructure and development penetration tools.
- In-depth expertise with security, infrastructure, software development, and application technologies.
- Proficiency with various methods of reconnaissance and information gathering including network analysis, web application analysis, and database analysis.
- Proficiency with various methods of threat modeling and vulnerability assessment including vulnerability scanners, password crackers, and network protocol attacks.
- Willingness and capability to exceed mastery of common penetration tools toward a deeper understanding of the technology needed to reveal vulnerabilities that standard tool proficiency does not.
- Willingness to learn or experience with device hacking/reverse engineering of products and devices.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or another relevant field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge.
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting.
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others.
- Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems.
- Excellent time management and follow-up skills.
- Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in penetration testing.
- OSCP, GPEN, and/or other penetration testing certifications.
