The Senior Technology Manager at CarMax helps bring disruptive innovation to life. What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
- Lead and empower a team of Engineers with varying levels of experience in a Technology organization while adapting to a dynamic and changing environment
- Ensure the right skills are being used to solve the right problems while supporting the team with coaching, skills development, and career growth
- Prioritize objectives and provide a comprehensive approach to solution recommendations that includes ROI, time to market, scalability as well as alternative recommendations
- Think strategically - identify goals for the team while working to remove impediments
- Communicate effectively to multiple levels ensuring alignment and support for team objectives with stakeholders and Senior Leadership
- While this role is not "hands on keys," we challenge our Sr. Managers to remain curious of innovative technology while also broadening their knowledge of CarMax functional areas
- Drive associate engagement across multiple teams while leading through other leaders where necessary
- Provide high level guidance on Advanced Scheduling and Time and Attendance in the UKG platform for the organization across business areas

- .Net/.Net Core, ReactJS, Azure, Microservices Architecture with rapid release code

Purpose of the role
The Senior Technology Manager's primary responsibility is to partner and engage with our business to understand and anticipate needs and provide technology solutions and services that help deliver CarMax's strategic vision. This includes development of long and short-term technology solutions that address business goals and deliver improved profitability, efficiency, and unrivaled customer experience. This Sr. Manager will build, develop and maintain high functioning teams of talented engineers enabling CarMax's technology journey. As a leader within the organization, you will be results-oriented, data-driven, and have a proven record of influencing outcomes without direct decision-making authority. The Senior Manager will be responsible for short-term and long-term project/strategy planning and be comfortable guiding teams, setting performance standards and motivating associates to perform quality work. The Senior Manager is responsible for identifying high performing talent, gaps in talent, and developing associates to close the gaps.

- Provide people leadership for multiple, diverse cross-functional teams and individuals; coaching and guiding teams to enable future success

- Partner with product teams to outline roadmaps and share updates on progress
- Participate in software architectural discussions, influencing decisions, and collaborating with peers to maintain consistency across the organization
- Identify and champion people and process improvement strategies for the team(s)
- Foster collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and finds opportunities to expose engineers to career interests
- Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead organization towards its goals
Education and Experience:
- BS/BA degree required with preference for a Technology related field of study (Computer Science, Engineering, etc)
- 7+ years of experience in Technology with 5+ years of software/systems engineering leadership experience
- 5+ years' experience managing direct reports
- 5+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices
Preferred Experience:
- 5+ years managing and delivering Kronos WFC and/or UKG WFM projects and implementations
- 5+ years managing and developing Kronos WFC and/or UKG WFM teams and Associates
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Work Location:
This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office or
Dallas Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
