As an EMR Systems Administrator, you will work at Akron General's Medical Office Building in Fairlawn, from home and at other practices the team supports. You will be responsible for:

  • The process design, implementation, testing, training and ongoing support of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Training caregivers in the use of EPIC and its subsystems.
  • Establishing best practices.
  • Leading projects related to the roll out of systems, such as GSV, ePrescribe, Slicer Diver and Signal.

Responsibilities:

  • Functions as the liaison between the project team and the clinical community (e.g. physicians, nursing, ancillary) to acquire data for the AEMR system. Serves as the single point of contact to support for the clinical staff during and after implementation.
  • Works with Information Systems staff in development of system enhancements. Assists with the implementation of system software upgrades.
  • Ensures coordination to other clinical systems.
  • Monitors interfaces and appropriately notifies responsible Information Systems staff when problems arise.
  • Assists in the development of operating procedures that ensure efficient implementation and use of the system. Initiates, writes, and evaluates system documentation.
  • Assists in the development of system workflow, templates and forms.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves procedural and operational issues. Identifies areas for procedural improvements.
  • Assists in the development of annual capacity plan for future hardware and software requirements.
  • Assists in identifying/scheduling training requirements. Plans and presents clinical staff training sessions.
  • Assists in defining security procedures and maintains security system and records.
  • Represents the hospital at user group meetings. Participates actively in other committee work as assigned.
  • Attends necessary educational sessions to become proficient in knowledge and utilization of the system. Maintains annual mandatory training requirements.
  • Completes nursing informatics and other special projects as assigned.
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Certifications:

  • licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio.

Complexity of Work:

  • Coursework in information technology or technical training preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications and clinical applications.
  • Ability to translate clinical needs into system functionality.
  • Project leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with members of the health care team and consultants.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information to groups and provide individual instruction.

Work Experience:

  • Three years relevant clinical work experience required.
  • Experience implementing electronic medical record systems preferred. EPIC preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • High degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing.
  • Verbal communication and sufficient mobility to attend clinical meetings throughout the organization as needed.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
