Duties

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Provides technical assistance to the Branch Chief and Branch Supervisor in the development and improvement of programs. Makes recommendations to improve procedures and practices of the section.
  • Ensures that court hearings, notice of hearings and preparation of the court calendars are processed timely and efficiently in accordance with branch, division and court rules and policies.
  • Ensures that orders, motions, and pleadings are processed timely and efficiently in accordance with branch, division and court rules and policies.
  • Reviews and prepares financial reports; oversees opening and closing of finance operations.
  • Compiles statistical and narrative reports.
  • Responds to inquiries made by the public, litigants, judges and court personnel.
  • Supervises employees in performance of their duties. Responsible for hiring recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Conducts regular team meetings and facilitates training for employees.
  • Updates branch and finance manuals.
  • Responsible for accomplishment of special projects assigned by the Branch Chief and Branch Supervisor.

      Qualifications

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      High school diploma and six (6) years of administrative experience in a court, legal setting, judicial or law agency including at least one (1) year of experience as a supervisor.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      Knowledge of the Family Court Act of 2001, Superior Court rules, policies, procedures and, in particular, the rules of the Family and Civil Courts, including knowledge of the relevant provisions of the District of Columbia Codes and federal regulations governing the processing of Family Court matters.

      Knowledge of case processing, case receipting and case flow.

      Education Substitution:

      Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of administrative experience in a court, legal setting, judicial or law agency including at least one (1) year of experience as a supervisor.

      Master's degree and one (1) year of administrative experience in a court, legal setting, judicial or law agency including at least one (1) year of experience as a supervisor.

      Successful completion of the DC Courts' Management Training Program will count as one (1) year of supervisory experience. You must provide documentation by attaching your certificate with your application.

      Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
