The On-Call Public Health Nurse reports to the Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) Supervisor who, with a team of PHN's, assists in immunization clinics serving children and adults. This position also may assist with communicable disease investigations and reporting following the infectious disease guidelines developed by the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC. This position provides support in lead roles during immunization clinics.
Minimum Qualifications

NEED TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota
  • Current registration as a Public Health Nurse in Minnesota or qualifications to register and ability to obtain before start date
  • Valid Driver's License.
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior professional nursing experience in public health or community-based settings.
  • Prior experience giving immunizations to pediatric and adult clients and providing immunization clinics in community and clinic settings.
  • Knowledge of the recommended immunization schedule and current ACIP guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provide immunization services at Dakota County Public Health clinics and other community sites.
  2. Assist with communicable disease investigations as needed; acting as a resource for disease prevention and control information.
  3. Perform public health emergency response functions as trained and assigned within the department's emergency response plan.
  4. Complete forms and documents in accordance with department policies and procedures and professional standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment
  • Knowledge of public health principals, programs and services.
  • Knowledge of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices immunization schedules for children and adults.
  • Ability to utilize interpreter services effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and non-English speaking clients.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal relationships and ability to work with others as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with and learn electronic systems used to document DPC cases.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to surge capacity for both Disease Prevention and Control and Emergency Preparedness.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building, community settings and
clinics. Travel is required. Exposure to hazardous materials such as blood, and other body fluids. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, phone
calculator, copy and fax machines, nursing supplies and equipment including syringes,
hazardous waste, and personal protective equipment.
