JOB SUMMARY

Starting salary: $34,777/yr - $52,436/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Enhances the delivery of services to the community through the enforcement of parking ordinances for Unincorporated Orange County and statutes for the State of Florida. Assists deputies, other police agencies in the county, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Fire Rescue, and citizens as needed. #oj

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must have valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training within six (6) months of employment. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver's physical exam.
  • Must be FCIC/NCIC certified within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must successfully complete the following approved courses within six (6) months of employment: FDLE 1132 Parking Enforcement Specialist for Civilians, Orange County Sheriff's Office Parking Enforcement Chapter 35, FDLE 732 Traffic Control for Civilians, Field Training with a Parking Enforcement Unit FTO, and any other training that may be required by the agency or unit supervisor. Must maintain certifications listed above once achieved.
  • Ability to recognize violations of and enforce county parking ordinances, related Florida State Statutes and issue citations for violations (e.g., parking in Handicap parking without proper permit; illegal parking in fire lanes and County Right of Way). Respond to parking complaints reported to the Traffic Section, by citizens and other county and municipal personnel.
  • Ability to assist with parking and traffic control (e.g., special events and community service functions; law enforcement related details to include parking enforcement operations and traffic-related checkpoints; crimes scenes; funeral escorts; and accidents or times of disaster).
  • Ability to provide customer service by answering questions regarding directions, events, building locations and parking policies.
  • Ability to patrol malls, shopping plazas, and sub-divisions within unincorporated Orange County in an agency marked vehicle and a parking enforcement officer uniform.
  • Ability to testify in civil hearings regarding parking citations issued.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to speak/present effectively before citizens, and groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and various database applications.
  • Must have the ability to perform basic functions in Outlook and research information using the Internet.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task within established time-limits (e.g., simultaneously handle multiple phone lines and perform data entry with minimal errors).
  • Must be able to present a positive image in person and over the phone.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work well with others.
  • Must possess basic problem-solving abilities.
  • Must have the ability to learn, understand, express, apply, and demonstrate knowledge of relevant Florida State Statutes as well as agency policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties are performed in both office and field settings. Considerable local travel is required. May be required to work weekends, nights and/or irregular hours. Exposure to inclement weather may occur. Employee may encounter a citizen upset with an illegal parking event causing a potential dangerous situation. Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
