JOB SUMMARY

A Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer is a certified individual who serves on a part-time basis under the authority of the Sheriff of Orange County. This role involves the safeguarding of individuals and property while upholding laws and regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Certification: Must possess a Florida Department of Law Enforcement certification or be actively enrolled in a Florida Law Enforcement Officer Academy.
  • Work History: Demonstrated reliable work experience.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Age: Candidates must be at least 20 years old.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
  • Criminal History: No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors.
  • Military Discharge: Must not have a dishonorable discharge from the military.
  • Substance Use: No illegal drug use within the past year.
  • Physical Fitness: Must maintain good physical condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct routine patrols to ensure community safety and security.
  • Respond to calls for assistance and investigate potential criminal activities.
  • Engage with the community through various outreach programs.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate reports and documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain required certifications.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The role may involve exposure to various environmental conditions and requires the ability to work in diverse situations, including outdoor settings and during irregular hours.
