Our 3D Technologies enterprise team operates as a business partner for raised challenges and problems to propose ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. This role will provide support for our Co-Inventing Product Line.

Key Responsibilities:

Overseeing lab activities:

  • Help lead the execution of one or more sections of the lab and collaborating with the rest of the team to fabricate parts designed by anyone in the lab. The lab is broken up into sections or pieces of equipment, where each area is owned and maintained by one individual.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on managed equipment.
  • Coordinating fabrication scheduling with the rest of the lab team, pulling from the print queue, and operating the printers or other fabrication equipment to make necessary parts for incoming projects.
  • Working with suppliers on the installation, maintenance and movement of hardware and software, and will manage the capacity and shift workload to appropriate 3D Technologies internally and externally with pre-selected suppliers.

CAD and engineering:

  • Level-1 project request engineering and design support.
  • Meeting with team leads and internal collaborators across divisions to evaluate and process requests as well as assist in making iterative modifications to the 3D models as required.
  • Organizing designs in a central 3D print library to enable reuse of designs.
  • Collaborate with lab mates to transfer knowledge around printing and assembly requirements to complete iterations and projects.

Post-processing and assembly:

  • Post-processing 3D printed parts, such as washing/curing SLA parts, solvent welding or joining with epoxy pieces, de-powdering, and cleaning of SLS powder parts/machines and installing hardware to realize a physical prototype or end-use component or design.
  • Collaborating with the designer to understand any tolerances and functionality requirements.

This job varies daily and weekly. Any missing % in the role would be additional time spent in previously noted duties, or other miscellaneous duties as needed. Some examples of miscellaneous duties:

  • Receiving raw material shipments and refilling stock room.
  • Participating in weekly lab cleanups and waste management.
  • Attending and sharing weekly global meetings for operations and best practices.

Education: High School Diploma Required.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 1+ years' hands-on experience with 3D printing technologies, or 3+ years' experience in a multi-material fabrication shop
  • Demonstrated experience in project life cycle to include design and engineering, printing, post processing and testing components and assemblies for form and function.
  • Demonstrated experience working hands-on with multiple projects at a time with rapid turnaround.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse set of minds, such as scientists, engineers, managers and technicians, and help interpret needs to translate them into solutions.
  • Ability to rapidly communicate via tools such as email and IM with collaborators and 3D printing colleagues in constantly evolving situations.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • 3D CAD experience (Fusion360 or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Design engineering and machining experience
  • Hands on experience in operating and maintaining 3D printers and industrial machining equipment.
  • Material science experience specific to 3D printing materials
  • Knowledge of 3D wide range of printing technologies (FDM, Stereolithography, Material Jetting, Powder Bed Fusion, Binder Jetting, LOM, Direct Energy Deposition)
  • Ability to build and work across divisions as well as internal and external teams and vendors.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
