About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Engineer III supporting the WATCHMAN Division within the Cardiology group. WATCHMAN is an exciting growth driver for BSC. This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC's mission. This role supports a major product line with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

The R&D role will be a key team member within our Therapy Optimization team which seeks to support our physicians and field clinical team in the use of our device. The role will include researching available literature, leveraging previous industry experience, developing technologies and test methods, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to create and disseminate procedural best practices.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Create a strong team culture around high expectations & high performance
  • Prepare physician-facing presentations to summarize bench studies and coordinate cross-functional approval prior to distribution
  • Facilitate crisp decision making around key technical issues
  • Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates
  • Leverage internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives
  • Lead the design & execution of structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions
  • Understand anatomy, clinical use cases and the user interface
  • Successfully complete engineering work in multiple of the following areas: technology development, product design and development, test method development, specification development, bench & preclinical studies.
  • Understand engineering design, processes and materials and communicate them to others.
  • Interface with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Work cooperatively with quality, regulatory, clinical, marketing, and other supporting functions on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field):2-4 years with BS
  • Expertise in design simulation tools and analysis techniques
  • Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product design
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
  • Experience with CT or Echo based medical imaging data
  • Ability to research literature and develop clinical understanding with technical credibility
  • Experience developing test methods
  • Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge
  • Experience with BSC quality systems
  • Nitinol experience
  • Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy.
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
