About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Boston Scientific. As a key member of our Imaging business within the Interventional Cardiology division, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of innovative medical devices that improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop new products and technologies that meet customer needs and drive business growth.
  • Collaborate with operations to develop new processes and test equipment to enable increasing manufacturing volume.
  • Utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians.
  • Develop and execute structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions.
  • Understand clinical use cases and user interface requirements to drive design decisions.
  • Develop novel improvements to products or processes resulting in expansion of BSC's Intellectual Property portfolio in key strategic areas.
  • Successfully complete engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test method development, specification development, bench & preclinical studies.
  • Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • Train and/or provide work direction to technicians and other engineers.
  • Design, develop, debug, modify, and test mechanical assemblies and systems by using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies.
  • Document mechanical development by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests.
  • Track mechanical development effort by creating and maintaining records in the approved tracking management tool.
  • Solve engineering problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and verify requirements, component performance, and systems by using engineering practices.
  • Investigate, research, and select mechanical components, tools, equipment, and best practices.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical, Biomedical, Biomechanical, Electromechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 8 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 5 years with Master's Degree.
  • Strong mechanical engineering and problem-solving skills.
  • Medical device experience.
  • Solid lab experience with debugging, fixture development, and test equipment.
  • Expertise in design simulation tools, experimental design and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product design and leadership.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience interacting with physicians and customers on product design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the PTCA or Intravascular Ultrasound business.
  • Catheter design and process experience.
  • Design and process control implementation.
