BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Manage execution of a diverse range of grant-funded child health policy projects to ensure their successful contribution to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) federal policy goals. Coordinate activities across AAP grants to maximize their efficiency and coordinated impact on key AAP federal policy priorities. Staff and support AAP-led grant-funded coalitions working to advance federal policy goals. Oversee planning for and ensure the success of sponsored special events with relevance to the AAP advocacy agenda. Coordinate and contribute to strategically relevant grant-funded policy research to bolster AAP policy work. Support and contribute to fundraising efforts to expand funder relationships and generate new federal policy projects aligned with AAP priorities. Represent the AAP to outside organizations, including current and prospective funders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead the execution of grant-funded activities and coordinate needed input and contributions from relevant AAP teams, pediatrician experts, and external partners to support federal policy reforms that benefit child health and wellbeing.

2. Track grant deliverables and key performance indicators. Monitor relevant AAP advocacy and programmatic work and advise on cross-cutting opportunities to align activities and maximize the value of grant-funded deliverables in successfully contributing to AAP federal policy advocacy initiatives.

3. Manage grant-funded policy research projects to ensure their successful contribution to AAP policy and advocacy goals, including coordinating the input of team members, pediatrician experts, and consultants.

4. Staff and provide proactive planning and policy writing to AAP-led grant-funded coalitions focused on federal advocacy. Schedule meetings, develop and circulate agendas, track and follow up on deliverables, identify and propose speakers, and advise on coalition strategy to support the coalitions' success in advancing a policy agenda.

5. Oversee and coordinate the grant-funded convenings, fly-ins, trainings, and other events to ensure their logistical success and mission impact, including leading coordination with the administrative team.

6. Write, track, and initiate reports and grant materials for funders that are tailored to their interests and priorities.

7. Support fundraising for policy work through proactive research and share information about prospective partners with aligned policy and advocacy missions to support collaboration between the AAP Advocacy and Development teams. Prepare talking points and other background to support meetings with current and prospective funders that can generate interest in partnership on federal policy issues of mutual interest. Contribute to proposals and advise on novel projects to consider, based on alignment of AAP mission and funder interests.

8. Support AAP chapters in participating in or coordinating on grant-funded federal policy projects, to help the AAP engage strategically relevant federal policymakers through constituent engagement.

9. Provide necessary staffing and resources to AAP senior staff, the Executive Committee, and Board of Directors as it relates to assigned grant-funded projects.

10. Serve as a resource to other headquarters staff as needed. Maintain positive collegial working relationships.

11. Engage staff in other organizations, businesses, and/or foundations with interests in pediatric and child health issues to develop and maintain positive working relationships and collaborate on issues important to the AAP.

12. Assist in maintaining appropriate reports and correspondence for AAP senior staff, Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and Committee on Federal Government Affairs.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.
