of a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts,\r
accountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint\r
investigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive\r
insurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated\r
fairly.� Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource\r
for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.�\r

The MIA is charged with a broad range of\r
responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance\r
producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial\r
examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and\r
approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer\r
fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners,\r
and/or property insurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market\r
conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland\r
law.� The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and\r
outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of\r
individual consumers annually.\r

POSITION DUTIES

The\r
Chief Actuary, Property and Casualty directs and manages the actuarial operations\r
and supervises Actuaries assigned to the MIA's Property and Casualty Division. The\r
Chief Actuary reviews rate/rule filings for adherence to actuarial principles\r
and compliance with the Annotated Code of Maryland Insurance Article and COMAR.\r
This position conducts surveys, special studies, data calls and prepares\r
reports as required. This position also provides actuarial perspective and\r
recommendations to the Property and Casualty (P&C) Division staff, the\r
P&C Workgroup and other sections of the MIA; and may provide testimony in\r
support of the analysis or opinions at rate hearings. The Chief Actuary reviews\r
proposed legislation and regulations as assigned; and utilizes various types of\r
software to perform job functions. \r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Insurance, Risk Management or related fields;�\r
A minimum of ten (10) years of property/casualty actuarial experience; and�\r
Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS or ACAS) designation and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries required.�\r
