About the position

We are currently seeking an experienced Full-Time STEM Specialist/Math Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. The STEM Specialist/Math Teacher is responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate the usage of our Maker Space and the design cycle with hands-on content related projects. They will develop lesson plans and supplementary materials in accordance with the principles of Universal Design for Learning. They will also teach math to students in Grades 1-5, differentiating instruction to meet those students' needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach elementary-age small math groups
  • Partner with school psychology team to implement digital wellness programs
  • Teach students keyboarding/word processing skills, computer organization Google Apps and other relevant software
  • Provide additional remedial math support as needed
  • Partner and collaborate with educational leaders and homeroom teams to design and implement individualized technology skills and math curriculum
  • Establish class routines and behavioral expectations
  • Write progress reports
  • Display a commitment to anti-bias and anti-racism work, promoting inclusion, belonging and equity through their work in the classroom and school community
  • Develop a joyful and productive learning community where students feel safe to take risks
  • Conducts conferences with parents/guardians three times a year and as necessary
  • Attend and participates in cluster meetings in designated division
  • Attend faculty and staff meetings; active member of the Gaynor community
  • Participate in division-wide activities, trips and events Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or in education; Master's degree preferred
    • Experience teaching mathematics to elementary-age students
    • Knowledge of a variety of math programs; experience with Singapore Math and Stern Structural Arithmetic preferred
    • Understanding of how to teach using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach
    • Teaches skills through courses in technology education to students
    • Teaches developmentally appropriate classes in Digital Wellness in collaboration with a school psychologist
    • Experience working with children with learning differences preferred
    • Will display time management to maximize student learning
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Sets a respectful and positive tone in the classroom; ability to be flexible to adjust classroom instruction
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and parents
