Job Overview :

Will coach teachers on upper elementary math content, lesson planning and special education teaching and learning practices. Will teach math to elementary and middle school students, differentiating instruction to meet those students' needs.

This is a full-time position for our elementary and middle school age range.

Essential Functions:

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, division directors and other Math Specialists regarding curriculum and pedagogy
  • Teach and support students one-to-one and in small groups
  • Develop appropriate lessons with a variety of instructional formats to make the curriculum accessible to students of all ability levels
  • Support and coach Assistant Teachers and Head Teachers
  • Monitor each student's progress and engagement, differentiating instruction as needed
  • Prepare appropriate assessments to determine successes or needed interventions
  • Ensure a commitment to the school's DEI mission and goals by participating in continuous professional development for learning differences, anti-racism and anti-bias of all kinds, while promoting belonging and equity through work in the classroom and school community
  • Write and edit progress reports
  • Prepare and attend parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend and participate in cluster meetings in designated division
  • Attend faculty and staff meetings; actively participate in the Gaynor community
  • Develop a joyful and productive learning community where students feel safe to take risks

Qualifications & Skills:

    • Degree in Special Education and/or related Mathematics for Upper Elementary/Middle School Students (Master's degree preferred)
    • Related experience coaching teachers and knowledge of a variety of math programs; experience with Singapore Math and Stern Structural Arithmetic preferred
    • Understanding of how to teach using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach
    • Working knowledge of mathematical content and best practices at the elementary school level
    • Experience working with children with learning differences preferred
    • Independent school teaching experience preferred
    • Knowledge of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needs
    • Strong communication and organizational skills (both written and verbal)

    • Ability to be flexible to adjust with classroom instruction
    • Effective classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
