Summary

Duties

  • Plans, programs and coordinates medical social work and primary care services in support of clinic/department goals related to disease prevention and health promotion, provides supervision to the department staff and advises on all matters related to comprehensive social work, case management and outreach regarding the Cass Lake IHS.
  • Coordinates the medical social work department's quality assurance/performance improvement program and assuring the Health Program is in compliance with all applicable Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission standards and other licensure or accrediting mandates.
  • Works closely with all CLSU departments and clinics in coordinating services and referrals, identifies training and continuing professional education needs for healthcare providers in the Cass Lake IHS and assists with professional staff recruitment and outreach activities.
  • Provides a wide range of up to date evaluations and social work clinical services. He/she administers screening to patients, including depression, PTSD, alcohol usage, safety planning and Columbia assessments. Has knowledge about applying sensitivity to cultural norms, minority groups and the Native American population being served.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in community awareness, prevention and intervention activities, provides immediate assessment, referrals/transfers when appropriate and followup as needed with patients in crisis.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law , requiring contact or control over Indian children.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Individual Occupational Requirements

Degree:

Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating a comprehensive social work program for a department or clinic, social work treatment of clients and patients, providing case management services for inpatients and outpatients that require hospitalizations or supportive community placements.

Providing health education to patients, performing mental status evaluation on new admissions and referring patients and consultation.

Selective Placement Factor:
This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S.

State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW).

Time In Grade


Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Additional information

Per IHS policy (SGM IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
