Job Summary:

Provides laboratory quality control testing, inspections and hands-on verification when required to ensure company work complies with design drawing and specifications. Reports lab activities in Procore and to QC Manager. Works with inspectors, as directed, to provide contract-required data. Responsible for asphalt mix designs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and implement project quality control standards and follow industry best practice guidelines.
  2. Ability to perform standard testing procedures from LADOTD QA manual table 1.
  3. Work closely with Quality Control Manager, Field QC Technician, Asphalt Plant Foreman and Asphalt Plant manager, and when directed, to Project Owners for verification of adherence to contract quality control standards.
  4. Reads and has a thorough understanding of project specifications relative to project sampling and testing prior to the placement of asphalt department products in the field.
  5. Performs pre work checks to verify asphalt materials meet contract quality control standards prior to placement of asphalt department products in the field.
  6. Ability to enter asphalt QC information into Procore and LApave for documentation of quality control samples and tests.
  7. Follows QC protocol as directed by the Asphalt Department Quality Control Manager and adheres to the overall company quality control procedures where applicable.
  8. Performs other quality control duties as directed by the Asphalt Department Quality Control Manager when necessary.
  9. Immediately notifies the project foreman and superintendent as well as the Asphalt Quality Control Manager of any quality control matters that could result in a noncompliance issue with project specifications.
  10. Responsible for supervision and training of Assistant Quality Manager/Technicians.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Possesses LADOTD certification Asphalt Concrete Plant Level III.
  2. Educational and experience requirements include a high school diploma. 10 years of experience in construction materials related testing and inspection, with at least 5 years of experience in Asphalt Mix Design.
  3. Proven ability to interact professionally with company personnel and project owners.
  4. Proficient communication skills including verbal and written, interpersonal and organizational.
  5. Outstanding computer skills.
  6. Ability to commit to the company values.
  7. Ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  8. Ability to travel as required which may include out-of-town travel.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 lbs. including the vehicle connection to the asphalt coring rig. Specific vision abilities of required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
