This position is in the Executive Office of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. The Data Analysis Assistant reports to the Senior Information Management Assistant.

The Executive Office is part of the Office for Coordination and Shared Services which enables, directs and coordinates departmental efforts to ensure the effective integration and management of both Departments.

The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) serves as a center of excellence for peace operations, responsible for preventing, responding to and managing conflict and sustaining peace in countries where peace operations under its purview are deployed, and provides support to other entities on peace and security issues.

The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships.

The Department's mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Data Analysis Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Contributes to the preparation of reports based on organizational needs and requirements for reporting and analysis using various tools and systems including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as Umoja
  • Supports more senior staff in their work on process improvement mechanisms
  • Contributes to the preparation of data sets, being responsible for the acquisition and initial cleaning of data from primary and secondary data systems and documents data sets used.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of databases, contributes to data collection projects, products, tools and processes to extend the capabilities of client offices.
  • Contributes to the identification and analysis of patterns in data sets using various methods.
  • Prepares data sets upon request.
  • Acts as a IT technical focal point, including performing tasks related to scheduled service requests, responding to technical service requests ensuring compliance with UN Information and Communication Technology standards, and performing 2nd level computer troubleshooting in conjunction with OICT.
  • Performs administrative duties (e.g., requisitioning; property management; approving service requests; organizing and coordinating meetings and events).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Relevant training in data analysis and information technology is desirable.

Work Experience


A minimum of seven years of experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area is required.

The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher in relevant areas.

Experience with building and/or maintaining reports on PowerBI or similar tools is desirable. Experience with property control and management of large volume of IT inventories is desirable. Experience in Information Technology Service Management and Service Desk is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

This position is temporarily available until 30 June 2025.

The position advertised is funded through Extra-budgetary funds.
