Student Trainee (IT Information Technology Specialist) DT/EI/NT/CSM , GS-05 Duties:


The DT/OPS/NT/CSM team will comprise of a team of CSM ISSOs for each of the NT Divisions (Network Provisioning and Activations (NPA), Design and Engineering (DE), Network Operations (NO), Installations (ITL), Global Tactical Communications (GTC), and Technical Security and Safeguards Division (TSS)), a Primary NT ISSO (NT CSM Team Lead), and a group of Secondary NT ISSO Team Leads (Lead Secondary ISSO, Data Call Secondary ISSO Lead, Functional Secondary ISSO Lead, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Secondary ISSO Lead) of whom will be responsible for maintain the appropriate operational security posture for an information system or program will own cybersecurity matters involving the information systems within NT.

CSM provides guidance on safeguarding the overall security posture of the information systems within NT per applicable Department of State (DOS) and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices.


Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the development, tracking, and management of POAMs to ensure timely mitigation of identified security weaknesses.


Support the ATO process by preparing necessary documentation, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with security policies and standards.


Conduct Security Impact Analyses (SIA) to assess the potential impact of proposed changes to the security posture of information systems.

Take detailed notes during meetings, ensuring accurate documentation and distribution of meeting minutes.

Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to ensure continuous monitoring and updating of security controls.

Participate in risk assessments and vulnerability assessments to identify and address security risks.

Help maintain and update security documentation, including policies, procedures, and standards.

Assist in the creation and management of SOP documents.

Use SharePoint for document management and collaboration.

Utilize Excel for data analysis and tracking.

Prepare and deliver presentations using PowerPoint.

Assist in preparing reports and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and frameworks.

Familiarity with federal security standards and guidelines (e.g., NIST, FISMA).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Familiarity with SharePoint for document management and collaboration.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Previous internship or work experience in a cybersecurity role.

Knowledge of security tools and technologies.

Experience with security documentation and compliance processes.

Experience in taking and managing meeting notes.

Experience in creating and managing SOP documents.
