Our Mission
The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works). The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.
The Opportunity
The Education Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum seeks an Associate Education Specialist for K-12 School Communities to support the Museum's onsite, virtual, and digital K-12 school initiatives and Title 1 bus program. As a member of the Education and Public Programs Department, the Associate Education Specialist for School Communities is responsible for the operational aspects of the Getty's Art Access program, which is one of the largest K-12 school visit programs in the country. The candidate in this role will oversee daily operations for the successful deployment and scheduling of museum staff and docents to accommodate students and teachers participating daily at the Getty Center and via virtual programming. The successful candidate will possess a background in office administration, logistics and operations, scheduling, and should be data driven, detail oriented, and customer service-minded. Under moderate supervision, the Associate Education Specialist may supervise work study students and interns throughout the year, and reports to the Education Specialist for K-12 School Communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight for the onsite school visit program, focusing on scheduling, coordination with staff, docents, schools, and teachers with an eye towards high quality customer service

• Under supervision, monitor and track the museum's Title 1 bus fund initiative, approve bus funding requests, monitor commitments, submit requisitions and purchase orders, file invoices, and provide reporting as requested

• Oversee the development and documentation of scheduling procedures in conjunction with school program coordinators and docent program staff

• Maintain databases and an education server to compile and provide complex statistical reports as requested

• Establish a strong and collegial working relationship with various Getty departments (i.e. logistics, facilities, visitor services, volunteers, security, etc.) to safeguard strong coordination for the visit program

• Work with docent program and gallery education staff to coordinate training and continuing education of docents

• Assist in the development of program goals and objectives using museum engagement strategies to meet the needs of K-12 students and teachers

• Develop and execute post-visit survey results to inform best practices

• Provide program management and administrative support including assistance with budgets, project schedules, and materials inventory

• May facilitate, coach, or teach within the docent program or teach with the collection and serve as a resource for teaching staff

• Review existing policies, guidelines and protocols and change or develop as needed, and document all changes

• Negotiate, contract and liaise with external experts and teachers, providing direction and monitoring of external vendors according to established guidelines, procedures, and policies

• Provide technical support and basic subject matter expertise throughout project development, implementation, and assessment stages

• Provide leadership to project staff and/or work group members

• Serves on collaborative project teams to advise and develop current and future Education Department initiatives

• Work to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts amongst K-12 student and teacher audiences

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree

• 3-5 years of project/process management and subject area experience
