Summary

The Budget and Finance Division is responsible for all financial aspects of the District of Columbia Courts and the duties of the Fiscal Officer outlined in Title 11, Section 1723(a)(2) of the D.C. Code. The Defender Services Program Specialist coordinates the review and payment of claims for services under the Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) program, the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) program, and the Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Program.



Duties

Brief Description of Duties:

  • Ensures accurate, timely recording and payment of all judicial-approved vouchers and fee petitions.
  • Prepares automated statistical data analysis and reports.
  • Develops and implements internal controls to ensure proper recording of expenditures and to safeguard assets.
  • Assists in the implementation of directives to ensure compliance with fiscal policy.
  • Reviews voucher claims from program participants to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal and local statutes, as well as with DC Court orders, statutes, and policies.
  • Analyzes data and applies accounting techniques to solve a variety of accounting and Defender Service program issues.
  • Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Prepares data for processing by organizing information, checking for any inaccuracies, and adjusting and weighting the raw data.
  • Trains employees and program participants on the use of the voucher billing claim system.
  • Responds to inquiries and follow up on issues related to voucher status, payment inquiries, genetic testing, and other program information.
